A2 Pop Up Cat Tree Card with Kathy

Hi Everyone!  It’s Kathy today with a quick assembly tutorial for the A2 Pop Up Cat Tree Card!  (available here in the Silhouette Store) This card is adorable, and really easy to put together.  This tutorial should also help you with the other Pop Up cards in Lori’s Shop, as the mechanics are basically the same!  Take a peek at my card…

I love the dimension of the pop up cards, it reminds me of those fun pop up books I had when I was little!  They really are pretty easy to assemble…

First, cut all of your pieces.  I like to line them up to make sure I have everything!

Next, I folded the card bases along the score lines.  Hint:  to best fold the pop up piece, start with the pop up strips before you fold the card in half.  This will eliminate any unintentional creases.

I then added the sky and grass pieces.

The next step is to adhere the pop up piece to the card base.  Make sure you do not add adhesive under the strips.  You want these to pop up.  The easiest way to get things centered is to first align the center creases of each layer, then smooth everything down.

It’s now time to add the decorative elements.  You want to make sure you only add adhesive to the lower section of the pop up strip.

When adding the cat and the tree,  make sure to align the bottom edge of each element with the bottom crease of the pop up strips.

Rolled Flower Tutorial with Corri

Hi everyone! Corri here today with a quick tutorial for the rolled flowers.  I love these flowers…they look great on everything!

Let’s get started…

Here’s how the flower looks when you take it off your mat.  I like to ink up the edges with some distress ink.

Next, hold the end of the spiral with a pair of tweezers.

Wrap the paper spiral around the tweezers until you have it all coiled around.

You can let the flower go now. It will uncoil slightly….apply hot glue to the center of the flower and press the spiral down on to the hot glue.  You could also use a quick dry glue but will have to hold the spiral in place while it dries.

You can use a paint brush to curl the petals.  Just roll the petals around the brush to give them a more realistic appearance.

There you have it!  Super simple and so fun to make!

Do Something Every Day that Makes You Happy

Hi everyone! It’s Karin and today I’m going to show you how to place permanent vinyl on a travel mug using this cutting file by Lori Whitlock below.

I made the decal for this travel mug using Cricut’s brand new Premium Outdoor Glossy Vinyl.

After downloading the file from Lori Whitlock’s store, I uploaded the image into Design Space.

I resized the image to 5 inches tall to fit my travel mug.

After resizing, I ungrouped the elements so that I could change the colour of the banner.

I selected the banner, clicked the scissors icon in the Layers panel and then changed the colour of the banner to white.

I pulled the white banner away from the text so that I could attach the text.

I selected all of the text, right clicked and selected Attach. You must do this if you want everything to be cut as displayed on the screen.

When all of this was done, I clicked Go and Design Space arranged my cut files onto mats by colour.

I placed the two colours of vinyl on mats and cut them with my Gold Cricut Explore Air one after another.

This was a really fun project. Lori’s inspirational quote is a great reminder to find time to do fun things (not that I need reminders to craft). Also, Cricut’s new vinyl was great to work with.

Telescoping Card Tutorial by Tya

Hi there – Tya here and I am up on the blog today to give you a tutorial on how to put together this amazing card. It is called a Telescoping Card and it is such a fun, interactive card that I know will be sure to impress! The card measures about 5 inches and would be great for a card, or scrapbook layout or mini album feature.

So the fun thing about this card is that it starts out looking like a normal, round shaped card. But with the help of a couple of mini brads – this card swings out and makes a 3 layered card. Isn’t it awesome!! Let me walk you through how I put this together.

Step 1-

Cut out your shapes. I used my Silhouette Cameo. The file I used is called a Circle Telescope Card.

Notice the little holes cut from the shapes- these are important so make sure they cut out all the way.

Step 2 –

Place the white cardstock onto the bases.

 Step 3-

Decorate the card fronts. I used Lori’s Little Man collection for Echo Park.

 

 

Step 4-

We will start building from the bottom up. Flip the middle section upside down and lay it on top of the bottom section. There a tiny holes that you simply line up, and place a mini brad in.

 Attach the brad and spin the middle section right side up.

Step 5-

Flip the top section upside down, and place on top of middle section. The middle section has a tiny hole on the top and the bottom. Add a mini brad to the top hole.

 Spin the card so the top section is facing the right way.

Here is the card all put together with the mini brads holding the sections together.

 And that’s all there is to it! I had a lot of  fun making this card and I know you will too! Hopefully I have inspired you to give this fun card a try! Thanks for stopping by today!

Cricut Explore Scoring Tutorial with Karin

Hi everyone! It’s Karin and today I’m going to show you how to make an easel card in Design Space using Lori Whitlock’s baby elephant easel card design from her SVG Shop. In the tutorial, I will teach you how to change the usual perforated score lines you have in SVG files to the special score lines that Design Space uses. Also, I have some really good news about that — they have improved the scoring function of the machine by having the scoring stylus pass over all score lines twice. This now creates a really nice, deep score line. Wait till you see it in the video.

If you could see my office/studio/craft room, you would know that I really need to use up my stash. I have ridiculous amounts of patterned paper so that is exactly what I’m doing today.

The patterned paper I’m using today is from a Best Creations collection named Safari Boy. I did a quick search and found that you can find some pieces of it on eBay and Amazon, but not much. I’m sorry if you are hoping to find this paper, but I think we can all stand to use something from our stash (wink wink).

The blue card stock I’m using is from American Crafts Tropicals collection. The brown papers are Recollections brand from Michaels. All of these papers cut beautifully in the Cricut Explore.

In addition to teaching you how to upload and cut the pieces for this card, I will teach you how to change the perforated scoring lines to the Design Space scoring lines that are scored with the scoring stylus.
