Easter Bunny Box Tutorial with Corri

Hi everyone!  Corri here today to share a quick assembly tutorial for this adorable Easter Bunny Box (Silhouette, SVG).

This box would be perfect for classroom Easter parties.  It goes together really quickly and is so cute!

When you cut out all the pieces this is what you will have.  I increased the size slightly.  You could make this even larger if you wanted.

First, fold the box along all the score lines and apply glue along the glue tab to form the box.  Next, apply the black piece behind the bunny’s face to create the black whisker and eyes. Then you can glue the pink layers to the ears, feet, and nose.

Glue the bottom of the box closed and apply the bunny’s face to the flap of the box.  Apply glue to the pink oval and put in place on the front of the bag to create the belly.  Finally, adhere the feet to the front with foam dots and the tail to back of the box.

There you have it! So cute and fun to make!  Thanks so much for stopping by!

Cut it Out! Tips and Tricks with Michelle

When using our electronic cutting machines, we often forget that our most valuable tool is our scissors. Hello crafty friends! Michelle Zerull here today to share some simple ideas to stretch your SVG files even farther.

3D Paper Spring Shed House with SVG files by Lori Whitlock

A few years ago my husband bought me this cloche for my Birthday. I love making little seasonal things to fit inside, but it is an odd size. If you recall, Lori designed the cutest set of Haunted Houses, “Haunted House Tall” was perfect for this project.  (you can find the file in Silhouette Design Store or at the Lori Whitlock SVG Shop)

I love the tall, skinny shape, but I can do without the spider for Spring.

A few quick snips to the details after they were cut on my Cameo. Voila! No more spider! It was super easy!

I also used my scissors on the 1 Piece Flower Cluster Border. (found in the Silhouette Design Store)

Flower Cluster Border

Isolating the individual flowers and cutting them out with my machine would’ve taken forever!

So it appears that cutting with scissors, a skill we all learned in Kindergarten, really is a great way to stretch our SVG’s even farther. I added an accent from Lori’s “Spring Fling” line by Echo Park Paper and a cute 3D flower (found in the Lori Whitlock SVG Shop and the Silhouette Design Store) and my cloche is ready for Spring!

Keep those scissors handy!

Leprechaun Gable Box Tutorial with Brigit

I love boxes or bags with cute little character faces on them and with St Patrick’s Day coming next month I thought I’d make a little leprechaun one.

You can start with any bag or box, I chose the tall heart gable box (svgsilhouette) and did a ungroup to delete the heart.

I like to do all my designing in Silhouette Studio and cut on my Cricut Maker since I have the Business Edition I can save my file as an svg and bring into Design Space to cut. I usually will change my score lines to solid lines so I can use the scoring wheel in Cricut. For this box I ungrouped all the score lines and deleted all but the lines I have circled then I selected one and dragged the handle, you can select all the ones going the same way and drag, just grab the center handle not the corner one.

This is what they will look like, I also filled in the box makes it easier to see. I then selected all the lines right click and make compound path, and then selected both the lines and box and grouped. In Cricut Design Space I will change the lines to score and then attach the bag and lines together.

For the face, I used the bobblehead card leprechaun (svgsilhouette). I ungrouped and deleted all except for the leprechaun’s head, buckle and one shamrock which I didn’t end up using. I sized the head to the front of the box and then made a duplicate of them. (you won’t need the extra leprechaun head I just always make a copy in case I mess up)

With the knife tool I cut down on the four lines on the front of the box trimming away the leprechaun. I delete the cut up box and trimmed pieces of the leprechaun and zoom in to see if I have to make adjustments.

I want the beard to be square to the box so I double clicked it to bring up the point editing menu, selected each of the points and changed them to make flat, and pulled the center one to the corner to make it square.

This is what it will look like, do the same to the other side.

I wanted the face to be square also so I made a duplicate of the leprechaun and selected the beard and face and welded together, makes it much easier to line up.

Here’s my project ready to save as an svg, I did also make an internal offset of the face by .05 and releaseed the  compound path the eyes and mouth, I like having a solid piece for the background.

Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful day!

I Love You Layout Tutorial with Brandie

Hi there Friends and Happy Valentines Day! Today I am sharing this scrapbook layout I made using the XOXOXO ( SVG, Silhouette) file as a background for my layout.

Once I had the cut file uploaded to Cricut Design Space I adjusted the proportions to make it a square.

I also did not want the heart to be a separate cut from the XOXO  so I selected everything and welded the images together.

I also added a few files from the Doodlebug collection French kiss. French Kiss Birds (SVG, Silhouette), French Kiss Clouds (SVG), French Kiss Balloons (SVG, Silhouette), French Kiss Flowers (SVG) , French Kiss Ferris Wheel (SVG, Silhouette), and French Kiss Key and Locks (SVG). I used white cardstock to cut the XOXOXO background.
The only spaced I backed with paper was the heart shape.

I also added a few straight stitches with a sewing machine. I ruffed the edges of the paper with an edges distresser tool.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you get to spend this Valentines Day with all your favorite people!

Make Your Own Pop Up Cards with Silhouette Pop Up Creator

Hi Everyone, It’s Kathy today with a fun tutorial showing how to use the Silhouette Pop Up Creator which is available in Silhouette Design Studio starting with version 4.1.  This is such a fun way to use all the shapes in your Silhouette Library!  I made this sweet kitty Valentine card using the cat from Lori’s Bobble Head Card Cat (SVG, Silhouette) and the Pop Up Creator.

To start, you want to select your shape.  Then trace your shape using the trace tool in Silhouette.  You also want to create two card base pieces, my first piece (pink) is 8.5″ h x 5.5″ w.  The second piece is slightly smaller at 8.375″ x 5.375″.  I added a dashed score line to the larger piece using the line creator and centered it so the card would fold in half.  I added a solid line and centered it to the smaller piece.  This line will be used as a guide and deleted later.

Next move everything off your mat, but the traced shape.  Select the shape by clicking on it and then click on the Pop Up Panel button on the right hand side.

Click on the Convert Selected Shapes in the Pop Up Menu.  This will add lines to your shape.

The Pop Up Creator creates a number of “support struts” that will make your shape pop out.  For cutting simplicity, it’s easier to have fewer of these struts.  By increasing the number in the Minimum Strut Width, the number of struts will decrease.  I kept enlarging my number until I had 3 struts.  This is a good number for support and will take less time to cut.

Next you want to adjust the base width.  This is the size of the connection that will connect the bottom of your shape to the base.  I increased the number in the base width until the supports were just slightly narrower than the feet of my cat.

One final adjustment to the shape… You will want to increase the length of the score lines by increasing the Dash Pitch Number.  This will make for easier, shorter cutting time.

Now you want to add the pop up shape to your smaller card base.  Add the smaller base to your mat.  Move the Pop up shape so that the bottom most score lines align with the temporary center guide line you created.  Next, select both the card base and the pop up shape and align them so that they are centered using the Transform button.  Make sure the bottom score line is still aligned flush with the temporary guide line.

Delete your temporary guide line, and extend the score line on the bottom of the pop up shape by clicking on the red dot and dragging almost to the edge.  Repeat for the other side.

You can adjust how deeply the shape pops out by clicking on the dot on the center of the shape and dragging down to make it stick out more, or up for less.  Make sure that the height of the pop up shape is not higher than the height of your card when closed or it will stick out of the top.

Once you’re happy with the placement, select both the pop up shape and the base, right mouse click and select group.

One more optional step.  If you look at the card I created you’ll notice I cut patterned paper to cover the inside of my card which molds itself around the pop out shape.  This is actually pretty easy to do.  Start by creating a copy of your card base.  Select the copy (only) by clicking on it then right mouse click and select make compound path.

Click on the resulting shape to select and then click on the Offset Panel button on the right menu.

Click on the Internal Offset Button, then change the Distance number to be 0.8.  This creates the panel shapes inside the card base.

Drag the inside shapes out to separate and delete the remaining shapes.  I colored them blue in this picture so you can see them.

One final thing before cutting, when you send the pop up piece to cut, you’ll notice the top of the shape’s lines are grayed out…. this is correct, those lines are not meant to be cut.

Once you’ve cut all your pieces, they are easy to assemble..

Cut all the pieces and assemble the shape piece if needed.  Add the decorative panels you cut to the inside of the card.  The second picture (B.) shows how to fold the pop out piece.  Add the shape over the pop out design piece, and then glue the pop up base into the slightly larger base, making sure that you do NOT add any adhesive under the pop out pieces.

All that’s left is to embellish!  I created a print and cut sentiment using Lori’s Abby Font (SVG, Silhouette) and added a bow sticker and enamel hearts.  I also decorated the front of the card as well.  The papers are from Lori’s Easter Wishes and Spring Fling collections by Echo Park Paper.

That’s it for me today, thanks for stopping by to peek!
