3D Halloween Lantern Tutorial

Hi Everyone!  There are some new Halloween lanterns in the shop.  I thought it would be fun to make some for this weekend!

Halloween Project Bundle 2

Halloween Project Bundle 2 (SVGs)

I made the 3D Witch Lantern (SVG, Silhouette )  I’ve put together a tutorial showing how to assemble today.

1. First, cut out all your pieces on your cutting machine.  You can see the pieces below.  I’ve folded them along their score lines.

2.  If you wish to add vellum to the insides of the lantern, do this next. I cut the vellum in 2.5″ x 5″  pieces.  I used adhesive on the top and bottom of the vellum to attach the lantern.

3. Glue the individual pieces into shape by adding glue to the tabs, and folding.  The tabs go on the inside so they are not seen in the final project.

4. Glue all the circle handle pieces together in a stack to make one thick piece.  Thread the stacked circles into the slots in the small square piece.

5. Insert the combined handle pieces into the domed top of the lantern, Secure by gluing the tabs of the handle to the inside sides of the dome piece.

6. For the lantern base, glue 2 opposite sides of the panel with the large hole very close to the edge.  This will allow you to add the slider piece to close the hole.

7. To complete, stack the pieces and glue.  Start with the base, then add the decorative lantern piece, and finally the top with the handle.

8. Place an electric tea light beneath the lantern. And you are ready to display!

I made a second lantern and sized it just a little smaller, so that all the cuts could fit on three pieces of 8 1/2 x 11 paper. You can see both sizes above.  An electric tea light easily fits in both sizes.

Check out all of the lanterns in the shop this week.  This post has photos and links to Lori’s SVG Shop and the Silhouette Store for each of the designs.  Have a great Halloween!

Large Haunted House

Today I’m sharing one of Lori’s Large Haunted Houses (Silhouette, SVG).  I really wanted a house that could be used for both Halloween and Fall, so I made the house in neutral colors, and attached all of the embellishments with magnets. That way can switch out the Halloween décor for Fall/Thanksgiving décor later.

Above are the Halloween décor items that have magnets on the back.

You can see the strips of magnets in this picture. I used washi tape to attach the banner.

I used Echo Park Paper’s Halloween Magic Collection. The cute characters in front are stickers from that collection. After Halloween I can swap out these embellishments for something more fall themed. This was so fun to put together.  This tutorial is for a different house but it is assembled in the same basic manner and will get you pointed in the right direction.

Have a great day!

1776 Shadow Box Tutorial

The 4th of July is approaching.  Do you love decorating with red, white, and blue? Today I’m sharing Lori’s 1776 Decor Shadow Box (SVG, Silhouette).  You can sing along to Hamilton lyrics while making this fun project.

To assemble, first cut all the pieces.

Next, adhere the decorative panel to the front frame and also adhere the stripes to the 1776.  I recommend starting with the top stripe, next the bottom stripe. Then place the second stripe parts on the number 6, and line up the other number stripes with that one.  This will help everything line up correctly.

You then want to glue the front and back panels together to form the “box”, and finally insert the 1776 panel into the frame, inserting the tabs on this piece through the slots in the “box”.

This will look lovely alone or as part of your patriotic decor!

Have a great day!

Tiered Mountain Box Card

There are still a few days before Father’s Day to make a card for your favorite dad.  I used a mountain box card file for a Father’s Day card.  I used some ink to make the background look like a sunset and I added a Happy Father’s Day sentiment. You could also use this card for any occasion for someone that loves the mountains.

You can find the A2 Tiered Box Card Bird Mountain File here in Lori’s SVG shop and here at Silhouette. The tiered mountains are really fun.

Have a great day!

Graduation Hat Explosion Box

I have graduation on the mind.  I have a 2021 graduate in my house, and I also know several other graduates.  Today I’m sharing the Graduation Hat Explosion Box–SVG, Silhouette.

Add a gift card in the middle to complete the gift!  It’s easy to customize, you can choose school colors or make it in classic black. Make a few for your favorite grads!

Have a great day!
