Digital Life Cards and Print Elements with the Cricut Explore with Karin

20160708-2016-07-08_17-00-04-Edit

I worked on a series of videos to show you how I am using Lori Whitlock’s digital life cards in my Project Life binder. I combined the videos into the one below and will add another in two weeks showing how far I have progressed in a very short time.
I had started a Project Life binder in 2012 and had it very well organized, but then I never kept it up. Since it is now so much later, I have decided that I won’t organize the binder by date. Instead I will just work through all my images and journalling using digital life cards and make my binder look nice and complete the project.
I literally have hundreds of files to work with so I need to organize them before I get started. I used Adobe Photoshop Lightroom to do this because it makes it so easy to find what I need. Also, if I want to tag elements for specific topics or themes, Lightroom makes this very easy. The image above shows how the thumbnails look in Lightroom.

The image above shows how I took an element, uploaded it into Design Space, cleaned away the outer white area to have the scalloped edge and inner portions as a print element that I cut out with my Cricut Explore.

In my video, I show you how I set up the element in the upper left corner of the print then cut image above to use it as a card in a 3×4 pocket.

This image shows you how the cutting line goes around the outside of the card.

Thanks so much for stopping by. Be sure to check back in two weeks when I post a flip through of my Project Life binder so far.

Father’s Day Toolbox Card with Karin

20160612-_MG_5139-Edit

Here is another really cute Father’s Day card from the Lori Whitlock SVG Shop. This time, it’s in the shape of a toolbox and it’s full of very useful tools.

The supplies I used include:

Lori Whitlock’s Toolbox card

Cricut card stock

Cricut pearl paper

Versamark stamp pad

Zing Pewter Metallic Finish embossing powder

Ranger black heat tool

ATG adhesive

In the video below, I show you how I set everything up in Design Space and then put the card together for you.

Have a great day!

Chalkboard Card for a Teacher Using Cricut Design Space with Karin

I made this adorable chalkboard card that you can use to give a special teacher a gift card.

To make the card, I brought the files into Design Space by choosing Upload Image.
20160517-2016-05-16_23-33-57
I opened the image of the cutting file (JPG) in Preview on my Mac and just moved that window onto the screen next to the cutting file pieces so I could see the colours used in the original project. In this case, I loved the colours because they are nice and bright so I used all the same colours for my card. I even had a great piece of wood grain patterned paper.

To change the colours of the components in Design Space, all I did was click the piece, that piece is highlighted in the Layers panel, then I clicked the scissors icon and then the colour I wanted for that piece.

Here you can see that I changed the colour of these tabs to red.

Before clicking Go, I selected the individual pieces by drawing a rectangle around them and then I right clicked and chose Attach. This is so that the little circular cuts and scoring lines stay in the right place on that particular piece.

After I cut and assembled the pieces, I used some baker’s twine to string the banner pieces along.

I put knots in the baker’s twine to attach the legs at the front and back.

I just used my ATG gun to put adhesive on the back of the iTunes card and attached it to the back of the card.

I stamped a sentiment on the front of the card. The You Rock stamp is from the Avery Elle Celebrate Stamp set. I used American Crafts Zing Embossing Powder in White Opaque Finish, my VersaMark watermark stamp pad and my Ranger Black Heat Tool for the sentiment.

Disney Themed Box Card with Karin

20160418-_MG_5122-Edit

Someone in my Cricut group was asking if it would be possible to create a Disney themed box card. I answered that yes, you could take one of the box card designs from Lori Whitlock’s All Occasion Box Cards cartridge and then use images from a Disney cartridge to modify the box card and make anything you want.

In my video below, I show you exactly how you would do this. With the Cricut Explore and Design Space, you can literally make whatever you want. In the video, I used a Cricut cartridge, but you could also use SVG files or images from JPG files that you would print then cut and use in your box card.

I would love to see what you come up with. Leave comments below with your ideas.
