Gift Card Booklet with Kathy

Hi Everyone, it’s Kathy today with a fun little gift card booklet I created using Lori’s Build an Album String Tie Envelope.  Every year for Christmas, I give my daughter some gift cards to her favorite places… it’s become a tradition, and she really loves it!  I don’t want to just hand her the cards, so I always make a little booklet.  This year I used Lori’s String Tie Envelopes to put it together. (available here in the Silhouette Store)

I tied five of the envelopes together with some twine to form the booklet, and had a fun time decorating each envelope… take a peek…

Each envelope has an insert.  I used some fun washi tapes to attach the gift cards to the inserts.

I can’t wait for my daughter to open this on Christmas day!  That’s it for me today, I wish you all a wonderful Christmas and a very Happy New Year!

Using the Cut by Color Feature with Kathy

Hi everyone!  It’s Kathy today with a tutorial on how to use the Cut by Color Feature in the Silhouette Studio.  If you’re not familiar, this feature allows you to select different cutting conditions for each line color on your design mat.  This is super handy when working with the Silhouette Sketch Pens and shapes.  I used this feature to create the leaves on these fun Thanksgiving Place cards.

Papers Used: The Story of Fall from Echo Park

I started by loading the leaf place card from Lori’s Thanksgiving Place Cards set (here in the Silhouette Store).  I moved the leaf part of the design onto my mat.

Next, I loaded my sketch font and typed the names I wanted in my cards.  I changed the color of the lines that made up my names by opening up the Line Color Window and clicking on a different color (the color does not matter as long as it is different from the color marking the leaf shape)

This is what my mat looked like when I was done adding all of the names.

Once I was happy with my design, I clicked on the Cut Settings button, then the Adjust Cut Settings button on the bottom.  First thing I did was change the Cut Mode from Standard to Advanced (1).  Next I clicked on Line Color under Cut Order (2).  This brought up a grid with the two line colors in my design.  I started with the first color, in my case black or the color of my names.  I clicked on this (3), set the Material type to Silhouette Sketch Pen (4).  I then right clicked on the highlighted line color and chose add pause.  This is very important.  It stops the Cameo after it has written out the names using the sketch pen so that you can swap back to the cutting blade before it proceeds to cut the leaf shape.

Next, I clicked on the Red line color (1).  Since the Red line is my outside cut line, and I don’t want to cut the name, I clicked on the center square button (2) until it showed just the outline.  This tells the Cameo to only cut the outline, not anything inside.  Finally I set my Material type to Patterned Paper(3).

Once these steps were done, I loaded my black Silhouette Sketch Pen in the housing, inserted my mat and chose Send To Silhouette.  First the Cameo wrote all of the names.  It then paused.  I swapped the Sketch Pen for the cutting blade, then hit Resume cutting.  The Cameo went on to cut the leaf shapes around the names.

Here’s a close-up of one of my Place Cards…

I love using my sketch pens and this makes it so much easier to use them with fun shapes!  I hope you find this helpful!  That’s it for me today, thanks for stopping by to peek!

Give Thanks Card with Kathy

Hi Everyone!  It’s Kathy today with a fun Thanksgiving card I created using a couple of Lori’s files…take a peek…

I love Lori’s card bases because you can use them for any type of card… just change the papers and embellishments to suit your needs and you can use them for Birthday, Holidays, Get Well, you name it!  For this card, I used the 5 x 7 Shutter Card (here in Silhouette Store), then added the Thanksgiving Turkey (here in the Silhouette Store).  It came together quickly and I love how it turned out!  That’s it for me today, thanks for stopping by to peek!

Customizing a Shape Using the Knife Tool with Kathy

Hi Everyone, it’s Kathy today with a tutorial to show you how to use the knife tool to customize a shape for your project.  I have to start this tutorial with a confession.  I am a crazy cat lady.  I saw a similar item to my project on Pinterest, wanted to purchase it only to find that it was only sold in the UK and it was sold out.  I was determined to have it so I came up with a way to make it myself… take a peek…

How cute is this??  Luckily my daughter was happy to be my model!  This was really pretty easy to do… I started by loading Lori’s Black Cat Design into Silhouette Studio.

I clicked on the knife tool on the left side tool bar. Using the tool I drew a line across the design where I wanted to cut it.

You can see that the line I created divided the cat, leaving the top half of the face as a stand alone design.

I deleted the portions of the design I didn’t want, then resized the top of the cat’s head to fit my umbrella panel.  I changed my cut settings to vinyl and cut my design.

You can cut vinyl without using a mat, but I usually use my mat so that I can use smaller pieces of the vinyl.  I cut out the cat face, then weeded out the pieces I didn’t want.

Next, I applied the transfer paper to my design and made sure it was down well, eliminating air bubbles using my scraper tool.

I peeled the transfer paper off, bringing the design with it.  The transfer paper makes it easy to apply the vinyl design all at once, exactly where you want it.  I applied it to my umbrella, using my scraper again to eliminate air bubbles, then peeled off the transfer paper, leaving just the design.

And voila!  A crazy cat lady umbrella!

That’s it for me today, thanks for stopping by to peek!
