Heart Shaped Box and Mini Album

Hi sweet friends! Traci here and today, I’m sharing a fun Valentine’s Day project with a tutorial. I made a heart shaped box with scrapbook pages tucked inside that are perfect for photos of your loved ones. I used Lori’s beautiful cutting file called Big Heart Shaped Box Roses (SVG, Silhouette) and it turned out so pretty. 💕

 

The lid of this box is gorgeous. I love its scalloped edge and the rose flower cut-outs. I used pink and white card stock and the Doodlebug Design, Lots of Love Collection to create this project.  

Here’s what the file looks like …

 

This box is so pretty. It measures 6″ x 6.75″ x 2.5″ and could be used for small gifts like jewelry, a toy, love notes, cookies, candy, a gift card, money, or directions for a Valentine’s Day scavenger hunt. How fun!

 

I used the same file to create the heart shaped pages. I didn’t bind them because, with a ring, they didn’t fit properly in the box. But that’s ok … they’re perfectly secure inside and now they’re even more interactive! 

 

I covered the white pages in 12×12 and 6×6 prints from the Lots of Love Collection and created photo mats with a 3″ scalloped punch and a 2.5″ circle punch. Then, I decorated with lots of cute die cuts. Love!

Now, time for the tutorial …

 

1.  First I cut out all of the pieces. 

2.  The pink ones are for the lid. 

3. And the white pieces are for the base of the box. 

4.  Next, I folded all the long strips (2 pink and 2 white) along the score lines. The little notches will be glued around the flat heart shapes to create the sides of the lid and box.

5.  Each strip fits around one side. I prefer liquid glue for this so that each of the notches can slide into place around the curves of the heart. 

6.  Once both strips are adhered, the lid will look like this.

7.  I repeated the same steps for the box, folding on the score lines and then adhering each strip around the base heart shape. The cutting file includes 2 heart shapes for the box, and two for the lid. Once the sides are adhered to each piece, the extra hearts are glued over the notches for a seamless look.  

8. For my shaped pages, I made a smaller heart by creating an internal offset of the original and cut out 4 pieces. This gave me 8 scrapbook pages (4 double sided), but there’s plenty of room in the box for more.

9.  I created another internal offset to get an even smaller shape for the pattern paper. 

10. I layered the card stock pieces, making these pages nice and sturdy. 

11. And finally, I adhered the intricate rose design on top of the white scallop heart and added both pieces to the lid of the box. It’s so pretty!

Sweet Little Valentine Chocolate Box

Hello, Crafty Friends!! Mitsyana Wright here… and I’m ready to toss out my winter snowflakes for some heart filled skies because Valentine’s Day is around the corner and February is the month of love.  So what better way to celebrate than with sweet for your sweetie… or sweeties. I have 4 kiddos and a Hunny bunny that would love to receive this sweet little Valentine.For this romantic shabby chic heart box, I used Lori Whitlock’s Valentine Nuggets Heart Box.

I started by downloading the file onto my computer and extracting the contents of the file.  I opened my Sizzix eclips software and loaded the file. I clicked the “Import” button to open the file into my software.

Once I opened up the file I grouped the images by like shapes and colors. (ex. all the red shapes together, all the scalloped hearts together) and moved them around to fit my virtual mat.

Then, I grouped my “like” items together so I could cut all the shapes of the same paper all at once. I used the gorgeous floral paper to cut the box panels and the basic heart shapes.

Then, I “hid” those box panels and basic hearts…

and die cut just the scalloped hearts from this beautiful fleur de lis paper. Once, the scalloped hearts were cut  I inked the edges using Walnut Stain Distress Ink.

To assemble the TOP box, I folded the panels along the dotted crease lines and folded each piece to form a rectangular shape. Then added glue to the small tab at the end and adhered it to the opposite end.  I pinched the ends together till the glue set and then added more glue to the bottom flaps directly to the bottom or “underside” of one of the scalloped hearts. If you look very closely at the cut, you’ll notice that there are tiny markers cut into it to mark where you need to adhere the boxes… so there’s no guessing where the center of the cut is and your box is properly aligned. I added glue to the box panels bottom flaps and adhered my box in between these markers.

For the Bottom box, I took the other scalloped heart and left it faced up and added glue to the remainder box’s bottom panels… but before attaching it I ran both basic heart shapes through my Xyron Sticker Maker and adhered one the hearts to the remaining scallop heart. Then I attached the remaining box over that.

For the inside panels of the box, the file has these separators. I just folded along the dotted lines and add glue to the small tab and attach to the opposite end so that it resembled a rectangle. Once the glue dried, I inserted all three into the bottom box.

Here is what both the bottom and top pieces should look like…

The top lid should fit snuggly over the bottom box.  I just simply added a sprig of leaves and flower buds onto the cover and topped with a single rose.

This little Valentine treat box is absolutely darling!!

And these delicious Hershey’s Chocolate Nuggets fit perfectly!! But don’t let the name of the file fool you because…

hey, look… these Dove Chocolate hearts fit perfectly too!!

Last Minutes Valentines Projects by Natalie & Christine

 Are you finishing up last minute touches for Valentines day? Here a couple beautiful projects for you to try…
Well, I have a quick and easy project for you today.  I kind of have this thing for changing out my pillows for the different holidays.  I just have three pillow forms I picked up at Hobby Lobby last fall, and have been making slip covers for every holiday since.  So Valentine’s in no exception, however, I couldn’t find any cute Valentine fabric I liked enough to stare at for a whole month.  So last time I was at Hobby Lobby, I ran across these fabrics, and as much as they are cute, they are not very holidayish (is that even a word?)  So I took it upon my self to fix that.  I grabbed some iron on vinyl from my stash, and a cute file from Lori’s shop, and now the set looks the part.
 
I simply made three pillow cases, but the one that was white I stitched with some red tread to make it a little more fun.  Then I cut out the heart, and ironed it on.  I love quick projects like this, but they look pretty fancy still.

For those who are still trying to think of the perfect gift to give your “somebody special” on Valentine’s Day, I have a fun and easy idea for you.  This beautiful heart shaped box goes together in minutes and is beautiful as well as functional.  

To make the box I used Lori’s Heart Shaped Box cut from her store and then decorated it with one of the new 3D Flowers Sets in her shop.  I used a special trick in my Silhouette program to make the pink of the flower match the box perfectly.  Stop by my blog to find out how I did it.

After the pieces were cut I also added a little Spun Sugar and Worn Lipstick Distress Inks to the curled up edges to create depth.
This picture shows the top and bottom of the box.  I love the pretty scalloped trim on the top of the box.  I added some black satin ribbon because it coordinated so well with Lori’s Love Story paper collection by Echo Park.
