Graduation Hat Box Card Tutorial

It’s almost time for all the Graduation announcements to start rolling in and Lori has all the perfect cards for the new Grads.  I have a tutorial to share with you today with one of her new files, and you guessed it…a box card.  It’s the Box Card Graduation Hat in Lori’s Shop or here in the Silhouette Design Store.

First, I chose my colors of card stock and cut everything out as you can see below.  I love that Lori colors all of her files.  It just makes it all so easy,

After I get all of my pieces cut out, I find it easier when making box cards or envelope cards, to adhere all the bits and pieces to the main parts while everything is still flat. Not dimensional yet. So here you can see that I have all three of my box card pieces layered and adhered.
Then I add scor tape to all of the tabs, a nice strong double-sided tape works best for these cards.
You can see the scor tape on the tabs, it’s the white strips.
Next, assemble your box and then add your two layers…the hat and the stars.
You can see below how they are adhered inside the box.
These are so much fun to create and give such a WOW factor. Remember they fold flat for mailing too!
I adore how this turned out. Just so fun for the Graduate!
Thanks for joining us today!

Graduation Hat Jar Toppers with Anita

Hi Everyone:

Anita here to share with you a fun tutorial to make this Graduation Hat Wide Mouth Topper.  You can find this awesome cut file here in Lori’s store and here in the Silhouette store.  The Mason jars are by Ball and are 24 oz.  The opening is 3.5 inches in diameter.  Lori also has a cut file for a smaller Mason jar.

Here are the pieces that you will be cutting.  I edited the square shaped hat topper and transformed it into a hexagon to look like the PhD graduation cap that my best friend’s daughter wore at her recent graduation.

Here is a close up of the jars for you to see what they look like.

First you want to take the long, tabbed strip and fold the tabs along the score lines.  Glue the ends of the strip together to be in the shape of a circle.

Take the first circle and insert it inside the ring, gluing it to the folded tabs.  This helps keep the circle in shape.  Next, turn the ring over and glue the second circle over the tabs to hide them.

I made a tassel out of some twine in the school colors and threaded it through the hole in the larger of the two mortar board pieces.  I taped the end underneath and trimmed it so that you couldn’t see it.

Next, I glued the second, smaller mortar board piece over the twine tassel end and glued the circle base to the top centering it.

Here is another photo which might be a bit easier to see the parts.  These lovely toppers easily slip on and off the jar, making it easier to access the treats!

That’s it for me.  Thanks for looking and be sure to check out Lori’s store for all your spring and early summer celebration needs.

Hugs,

Anita

Customized Graduation Cards with Kathy

Hi Everyone!  It’s Kathy today with some Graduation cards. We have at least 4 graduation parties coming up and I wanted to use the new Flexi Card Congrats Grad (SVG, Silhouette).  I decided to embellish them a bit and also to add a gift card pocket to the back of the card.  I used the Graduation Cap with Year (SVG, Silhouette), and the pocket piece from the Gift Card Purse (SVG, Silhouette) to customize my cards.

I looked up the colors for each of the schools and used those colors for the frame and background piece on the Flexi Cards.  I resized the graduation cap and year to fit the front of the card and added them with some foam tape to make them pop a bit.  I used a gold enamel dot to top off the tassel.

I resized the pocket from Gift Card Purse to fit on the back of the card, this way I can add a little something to the card!

Below, I’ve highlighted the pieces I resized so you can see how big to make them if you wish to recreate this card. (you can also use the pocket on the other cards in the Flexi Card Sentiment Bundle as well)

(Measurements:  Hat: 1.161″h x 2.25″w    Year:  1.140″h x 1.0″w   Pocket:  1.991″h x 4.463″w)

That’s it for me today, thanks for stopping by to peek!
