Nativity Christmas Ornaments with Silhouette or Cricut

Looking for a simple and beautiful Christmas project idea? I spotted the most amazing Christmas ornament using my NATIVITY CUTTING FILE while blog hopping one day. I contacted Vanessa… who writes the blog (sewcakemake.blogspot.com) and asked if I could highlight her fabulous Nativity Ornament. She was happy to share her idea with all of us. I think these Christmas ornaments are so pretty and they look so easy to make. I may just have to make a few of these for our tree or to give as gifts this year.

Oh… and to make this project just a little easier for you, I created a FREE SVG file for the clear insert ornament (made for 2 5/8″ wide ornaments) that you can download HERE. This file includes a JPG for printing as well as SVG and DXF files for your Silhouette, Cricut Expression, and any other cutting machine that will use these files. I also created a Print and Cut version of the insert WITH the nativity available for purchase HERE. You can get printable acetate HERE. You can get regular (non-printable) acetate HERE (for use with VINYL).

You can purchase the Nativity SVG cutting file HERE

You can purchase the clear insert with the Nativity for Print and Cut HERE

or if you have a Silhouette you can find it at the Silhouette Online Store HERE.

Visit Vanessa’s BLOG for detailed instructions on how to make this ornament. She has a great tutorial.

  1. This is beautiful! I’ve seen this done with colored images before, but it’s so elegant and classy done so simply with the black cut file! Thanks for sharing.

  2. Thanks so much for sharing the cutting file. I could have used that last year 🙂 (90+ ornaments later). Will find a good use for it this year. Love your nativity with it as well.

  3. Thank you so much for this! I’ve been eyeing up the nativity scene and think it will make a great gift for my Sunday School students!

  4. I just bought that nativity in the Silhouette store. I love the insert idea. Can’t wait for my Cameo to arrive so I can start cutting.

  5. My friends and I have made a ton of these this week using this image and other nativity scenes. In our laziness we discovered that if you use the print & cut feature you don’t have to weed and cut every image. I made a sheet with 6 ornament tags and put the images inside, filled them black, and printed it out. Then took it to copy store and had them run them on transparencies, then ran them through the silhouette to cut the circle tag. Insert in ornament, and viola, much weeding and cutting eliminated. Side-by-side it is difficult to tell which are the cut ornaments and which are photocopied.

  6. I love the ornament and would like to make some, but when I download the file for the ornament insert the svg file I get is a document file not a cutting file. Help….

  7. We had a hockey manager that put the team mascot (cougar head) in the christmas ornaments for the past couple of years using her silhouette. She handed each on of the players an ornament at Christmas and they’re just beautiful:)

  8. Can you please tell me where you bought your glass ornaments and snow? Thank you! I love these and plan to make them for next year.

  9. I have just found your blog – and I am having SO much fun looking. I love to craft. I feel really stupid for asking this, but here goes: I have a Cricut Expression machine – but i have NO idea how to download on my computer and use my Cricut to cut – can you help!!!

  10. I created a print and cut file. Printed it on a laser printer. One trick is to put a small piece of paper under the registration marks on the transparency (between the transparency and the cutting mat) so the cameo can see them and auto detect. I did have to play around with the size of the circle until it fit just right. I cut paper first so as not to waste the transparencies. It took some time (I’m a beginner) to set up. Now that it is formatted, I’m going to have my church and neighbor gifts done in no time! Thanks!

  11. I am officially jealous of Peng Joon. This video he’s released is amazing and it’s the reasonI’m jealous, watch this video BUZZBOOZ.COM The good part starts somewhere around the 2 minute mark.

  12. Tried to go to the link for purchasing the nativity svg file but it doesn’t come up. Can you direct me to the nativity svg file? Also I love the little manger. WHere is that file from? Thank you so much!

  13. I would love to purchase your Nativity Set!! The link says it isn’t available. Can you tell me if it will be available for purchase again?

    Thank you!!

  14. I have downloaded the free file several times but the images will not open for me. I do get the outline of the transparency, just not the Nativity itself. Could you please email it to me? merryagray@yahoo.com

  15. I have downloaded the files but can’t use them. I tried to open in silhouette and also in word. Not sure what to do with them. New to silhouette and really am not new to computers! Is SVG the file that the silhouette uses or what file?

  16. I have download these twice it said I did 3 times. Can not open it. Email 3 time have never heard back very dissapointed.

  17. I found it soooo much easier to have the image copied onto the transparency using a laser printer. That way you only have to cut out the ornament shape not the whole nativity. Note: Must be a laser printer or it will smear. Kinko’s (Fed Ex Copy) has them 75 cents a sheet and will do it for you 6 per sheet for free. Thanks – this made a nice teacher gift from my daughter.

  18. I am looking for the clear oranment insert file in the silhouette store but can’t find it. Please help. I also can to get the other file to open in my silhouette so i can cut it. I need help and i will take and i could get thanks

  19. Thank you!

(Those of you who are having trouble opening the file in Silhouette, you must extract the files since they are a zip file.)

  20. Gorgeous ornament!! Thank you so much for the idea and the free file!! I love your files and have purchased many of them in the Silhouette Store!!!

  21. For Silhouette Studio: Download the exe file and extract it. Place the SVG file somewhere on your computer where you can find it.

Go to: File>Import to My Library

-In the Import dialog box, navigate to the folder where the SVG is located,
-Change the “Files of Type” pulldown box to .SVG,
    -Select “LW-Glass-Ornament-Insert,”
    -Click OK

  22. If you are like me and having trouble getting the svg file to import into your Silhouette software, here’s the answer. The basic Silhouette software does not support svg files! So, if you use the dxf files instead you should be able to import without problems. Thanks for such a great freebie!

  23. I purchased this at the Silhouette store and just printed them out and made them today! I love these. I did have to re-arrange the file so that I could get 8 to a page. It comes 9 to a page but they won’t cut completely using an 8 by 11 transparency. They print but the edge ones on both sides won’t cut all the way around. I just cut with scissors the rest of the way so I wouldn’t waste them. Re-arranged after and saved my file for next time. So adorable!

  24. Hi! I know you did this post 3 years ago – but I just followed some pins and some links to this post – and I want to say THANK YOU so much for the free svg of the ornament inserts!! Wow!! I’ve been wanting to do this type of ornament/craft for a while now – have bought the ornaments (2 years ago), have even bought the transparency (last year) – but now I’ve actually cut out the inserts… I’m getting there – maybe tomorrow…. {fingers crossed}!

  25. Steroids can likewise be put to use as a pain reliever in some instances, but mostly they are utilized to provide a look of strength since they promote growth of tissues and muscles to provide men and a few women the bigger muscles they’re on the lookout for. The majority of people who use steroids the incorrect way will inject them directly in their muscles employing a hypodermic needle. So should you get started abusing a steroid in your teens, there’s an excellent chance that you will remain that height for the remainder of your daily life. Though steroids are banned by every significant sport and even large school sports, individuals are still using steroids. Anabolic steroids may be used in pill form in addition to through injection of needles. They are illegal due to the dangerous side effects. It isn’t an anabolic steroid as it doesn’t affect hormones with anabolic outcomes.

  26. I love the floating nativity scene. So much so that I purchased the download. Thank you sooooo much!
