Two years ago I started a project of collecting family recipes and planning to make a book. Well I didn’t get too far, but I have been thinking about it a lot. So New Year, a new time to to commit to a great worthwhile project. Here’s to Traditions:
Who here eats Black-eyed Peas for New Year’s? I actually really like them, but know they aren’t popular with some. Maybe I need to serve them more often, so my kids will learn to like them?… My mom comes from the South, so a lot of my family’s eating traditions have roots in the South. We don’t live in the South, but I want my kids to have this part of our history in their lives. I would love to hear some of your family’s food traditions.

We have blackeyed peas, greens, hog jowl, and cornbread for New Years. I also have snack items because some of my family prefer other things but I still fix the traditional items because I want them to know what we always had when I grew up and I always tell the younger ones what the items stand for.
