A2 Pop Up Round Cake Card Tutorial with Michelle

Hello! Michelle here today to share a fun, interactive birthday card that will impress all of your family and friends. Birthday cards are a staple for every card maker, but with busy lives, they are often made at the last minute. This pop up card can be made quickly, but no one else will know that. They’ll think you spent days working on it! Let me give you some hints and tricks and show you how easy it is to make.

A2 Round Cake Pop Up Birthday Card

  1. To make this pop up card, you’ll need to download the A2 Pop Up Round Cake Card files from the Lori Whitlock SVG Shop or the Silhouette Design Store and cut out your pieces. (Note: The Semicircle pieces I later cut from brown instead)  Layer and glue your letters and semi circle pieces together as shown in the finished card photo and set the pieces aside.

2. Take the large piece with scallops and fold it in half on the score lines. The other side, or back side of the paper will now be facing up. We will be shaping the piece from it’s backside.

Use two hands to help “train” the cake piece in to its desired shape. Assuming that you’re right handed, place your right hand on the paper near the score folds to hold the paper in place. Using your left hand, hold on to the scalloped edge and gently nudge the paper towards your right hand. The paper will begin to fold itself. Some the edges may need assistance and need to be folded individually. Now turn the paper over and repeat this process on the other side.

3. When you turn the paper right side up, you will see that it still lays flat, but has a gentle “lift” to it. At this time, layer the semi circles to the front as shown and glue in place. (hint: Use dry adhesive to avoid your pop up from warping and losing its shape.) Now you should only have two pieces left.

4. It’s now time to glue your scalloped cake to your card base. We are only going to glue one half at a time. Fold your scalloped cake piece in half as shown below. Add adhesive to only the scalloped piece and glue as close to the line as possible without going over the center folded line. I found that it was easier to find the center scored line if I held it at a 90-degree angle as shown in the photo.

Now you need to add adhesive and glue the other side (the side facing you) to the card base too. (Important Reminder: Do not add adhesive to any other area. Only the scalloped edge) Simply close the card so the adhesive on the scalloped piece will adhere to the base. Open the card and Viola! Your cake pops up when the base is flat! (Notice that in the photo below, the scallops were glued close to the center fold, but not touching the center fold line.)

5. Now you can embellish your card as desired. The card has enough of a “Wow” factor that it really doesn’t need much embellishment. I chose to use the “Sweet Baby Girl” line by  Echo Park Paper. The line was designed for a baby, but I think that it works for little girls too. Since the inside is so awesome, I left the outside fairly simple. I made a crepe paper fringe and used the “Birthday Girl” round sentiment for embellishment. You can find that sentiment file at the Silhouette Design Store and at Lori Whitlock SVG Shop. I really like that the Round Sentiment echos sentiment on the pop up, but no matter how you embellish your card, it’s going to look fabulous.

I truly believe that this A2 Pop Up Round Cake Card is going to be one of my “go to” cards. I’m anxious to make a masculine version in dark colors. Won’t that be great? If you make this pop up card, share it with us on social media using the #loriwhitlock hashtag.

Mother’s Day Card and Gift Card Box Set with Anita

Hi Lori Whitlock Fans:

Anita here with a pretty card which was so easy t make and a gift card box.  It’s time to start thinking about the mothers in our lives.  I am impressed and amazed every day by the strength, humor and resilience that I see in the mothers around me.  For this set I used several different files.  The card is part of Lori’s Center Box Card series and it is called Center Box Card Mother Flowers and you can find it here in her store along with a tutorial to put it together and here in the Silhouette store.  I am in love with the soft sweet colors in Lori’s new Echo Park line called Sweet Baby Girl. I used some pearls for the flower centers and some twine to finish off my card.

The box is called Gift Card Wrap Box and is simple to put together.  You can find that file here in Lori’s shop and there is a tutorial there as well.  You can find it also in the Silhouette Store.  I didn’t want my box to have the same sentiment so I used the sentiment from the A2 Tea Shaped Box Card  Teapot which you can find here in Lori’s store and here in the Silhouette store.

Here is a photo of the card folded flat.  It folds into a 5 1/2″ X 6 1.4″ almost square.

Precious Baby Fox Bobble Head Card

Happy Monday, Friends! Creative Team Member, Mitsyana Wright, here! And I have some sweet inspiration to start off the new week. I had a baby shower this past weekend and I created the little cutie to give to the mama to be.

For this adorable card, I used Lori Whitlock’s Bobble Head Card Fox file.  I saw this little guy and automatically fell in love with him!

Since my friend is expecting a girl, I decided to turn this cute little guy into a cute little girl by hand drawing on eyelashes and added pink chalk for blushed cheeks.

I used  Echo Park’s Sweet Baby Girl 6×6 Paper Pad and Sweet Baby Girl Frames & Tags Ephemera. The colors, patterns, and sentiments were absolutely perfect!! And as you can see pulled everything together to make an uber adorable baby shower card!

How to Make a Shaped Card with Kathy

Happy April Everyone!  It’s Kathy today with a tutorial showing how to make a shaped card from a one-dimensional file using my Silhouette.  I make a lot of these cards, and always get asked how I do them, so I decided it was time to write it all out!  For my card, I started with Lori’s new Cute Dog File (SVG, Silhouette)  I thought it would make a sweet card!

Start by loading the file into Silhouette.  I then  sized it so it was 6″ wide.  ( I wanted my card to be able to fit into a 6.5″ square envelope when done)

Next, select the image by clicking on it, and then select the offset button. (the button that looks like a star with a line around it)  The default offset is .125, which was fine for my project, click apply.  This will create a shape around your original shape which is slightly larger.

Move the original file off of your mat, and copy the offset shape two more times.

Click on one of the copies, right mouse click and select flip vertically.

Move the flipped shape down so that it overlaps the other offset shape.  Where they intersect will eventually be where the card folds.  Select both the “top and bottom” shapes, click on the transform button then click on the left justify button.  This will make sure your card sides are properly aligned.

Once the pieces are aligned, make sure they are still both selected, right mouse click and select weld.  This will make them one solid piece.

To add a score line, select the line tool, and draw a line in the center of the intersect.  Change the line to a dashed line.

Lastly, select the line and the card base, right mouse click and select group.

After I created the file, I cut all the pieces.  I assembled the dog shape, then layered it on the single offset piece.  This is then layered onto the folded base.

What you end up with is a cute puppy-shaped card!  I used Lori’s Sweet Baby Girl collection for Echo Park paper for the card.

Flat Front Shutter Card Birthday

Hello Everyone:

Anita here with a fun and easy tutorial for the Flat Front Shutter Card Birthday which you can find here in Lori’s store and here in the Silhouette Design Store.  I used one of Lori’s brand new Echo Park lines called Sweet Baby Girl.  It was perfect for a soft and feminine card.

Here are all the pieces.  There are several that are small so remember to keep track of them.

I put together the pieces of the card and  glued everything down before I started folding.  It is much easier to work on the folds that way.

Your first step is to crease the fold to the right of the cake and you will be folding it so it pops up when lying flat.

I held the card in my left hand and pressed gently down on the middle score line with my left hand and held it in place while I used my right hand to score it across the fold.  You will be creating a valley fold here.  As you can see the folds on the top and bottom of that section just naturally pop up the way that they are supposed to be creating hill folds.

I folded up the right side of the card and used a bone folder to gently strengthen my score marks.  On the smaller pieces you will be scoring through two of the folds.

Here is a view from the top so you can see exactly what it should look like.

Lastly, here is the closed card and as you can see it lays flat and can be popped in an A2 envelope to be sent off to someone sweet.
